Bodily maps of emotions
by Lauri Nummenmaa, Enrico Glerean, et al.
PNAS, Jan. 2014 vol. 111 no. 2 646-651
doi: 10.1073/pnas.1321664111

Emotions are often felt in the body, and somatosensory feedback has been proposed to trigger conscious emotional experiences. Here we reveal maps of bodily sensations associated with different emotions using a unique topographical self-report method. In five experiments, participants (n = 701) were shown two silhouettes of bodies alongside emotional words, stories, movies, or facial expressions. They were asked to color the bodily regions whose activity they felt increasing or decreasing while viewing each stimulus. Different emotions were consistently associated with statistically separable bodily sensation maps across experiments. These maps were concordant across West European and East Asian samples. Statistical classifiers distinguished emotion-specific activation maps accurately, confirming independence of topographies across emotions. We propose that emotions are represented in the somatosensory system as culturally universal categorical somatotopic maps. Perception of these emotion-triggered bodily changes may play a key role in generating consciously felt emotions.

Citizens in various countries around the world were asked by WIN/Gallup in their 2013 End of Year survey, “Which country do you think is the greatest threat to peace in the world today?” Above, the number one answer from each nation is represented by the flag flown over their country. Thanks to Joe Hammer on Youtube for making the map.

there is no need for a range of negative values for counting views, what means the bit determinating whether the number is negative or positive is obsolete and is used to double the range of positive values in the 32-bit array.
in result we obtain 2^32(4.294.967.296) distinguishable positive values.
at the time the video has views which is still far away from braking the 32-bit limit.
